What Is Self-Empowerment?

Self-empowerment refers to your ability to make decisions independently and take self-directed action when you want to. Your autonomy can be restricted by others or when you feel unable to do what is right for you.

Why is it important to build this skill?

Feeling able to move forward with your goals and live in accordance with your values is essential to your well-being. When you feel that others are living your life for you, choosing your beliefs, values, or behaviors you can lose confidence and experience reduced well-being. Changing your surroundings to increase autonomy in important areas of your life is then essential to your happiness.

Positive self-views: Emotion Activity
No one meets all of their goals all of the time. The ability to accept yourself, non-judgmentally, is key to creating personal autonomy.

Positive self-views: Emotion Activity
When we imagine things, our brains experience them as if they are real. So when you imagine your best self, your brain can begin to build pathways that help us develop positive views about yourself and treat yourself better.
