“I tend to worry about the future.”
What is Worry?
Worry refers to thoughts, emotions, and images of a negative future. We may worry about real or imagined future events. We mistakenly believe that worry is useful in helping prevent undesired future events, but excessive worry only propagates future worry.
Why is it important to have this skill?
Excessive worry is the key feature of generalized anxiety disorder. With or without an anxiety disorder, worry can cause severe somatic symptoms and emotional distress. When we limit the amount of time we spend worrying or we reduce the number of things we worry about, we free ourselves from excess anxiety leaving room for increased happiness.
